1 · Current Price & Technical Position
| Metric | Value | Signal |
| Current price | $1.41 | Below 52-week high of $2.88 |
| 1-day change | -0.7% | Slight pullback |
| 1-month change | +8.9% | Recovering from lows |
| 3-month change | +36.5% | Strong short-term bounce |
| YTD 2026 | -51% | Still in a bear trend for the year |
| 50-day moving average | $1.43 | Price just below — short-term resistance |
| 200-day moving average | $1.28 | Price above — medium-term support holds |
| 52-week low | $0.99 | The floor (tested in 2026) |
| Avg daily volume | $5.3B (3.75B XRP) | Highly liquid — institutional grade |
Technical read: XRP is in a recovery phase — up 36% in 3 months from the $0.99 floor, holding above the 200DMA ($1.28), but struggling at the 50DMA ($1.43). The 200DMA holding is bullish (medium-term trend intact), but the 50DMA rejection means short-term momentum hasn't confirmed a trend change. A clean break above $1.43 would target the $1.70-1.80 zone next. A break below $1.28 would retest the floor.
2 · The SEC Lawsuit — Resolved
The biggest overhang on XRP for 4 years is gone. The SEC officially dropped its case against Ripple. This is the single most important fundamental development for XRP — it removed the legal cloud that suppressed price from 2020 to 2025.
- SEC dropped the case: No further appeals. XRP is no longer under active securities litigation in the US.
- Regulatory classification: Both the SEC and CFTC now classify XRP as a digital commodity — not a security. This is the classification Ripple fought for.
- Trump crypto executive order: Further favours digital assets broadly, creating a more permissive regulatory environment.
- CLARITY Act setback: The Senate CLARITY Act (which would provide full statutory clarity for crypto classification) failed cloture by 11 votes. SEC/CFTC rules can classify XRP but lack full statutory authority over spot market transactions — a jurisdiction gap remains. This is the unfinished regulatory business.
3 · RLUSD — Ripple's Stablecoin
Ripple launched its own dollar-backed stablecoin, RLUSD, in December 2024. It has grown rapidly:
| Metric | Value | Context |
| Total circulation | $2.4 billion | +50% in one month (Sep 2026) |
| Daily transaction volume | ~$750 million | Up from $200M in January 2026 |
| On XRP Ledger | ~$1.0 billion | Less than half sits on XRPL |
| On Ethereum | ~$1.4 billion | More active on a competing chain |
| Share of total stablecoin market | <1% | Total stablecoin market: $300B+ |
| Regulatory approvals | NY DFS, Dubai DFSA, Luxembourg (MiCA) | Three major jurisdictions |
The honest caveat: RLUSD is growing fast but is still tiny (<1% of the stablecoin market). More concerningly, more RLUSD circulates on Ethereum than on Ripple's own XRP Ledger — suggesting the market prefers Ethereum's liquidity and ecosystem even for Ripple's own product. For XRP bulls, the question is whether RLUSD growth eventually drives demand for XRP (as the native asset for fees/liquidity on XRPL), or whether RLUSD simply competes with XRP for use cases.
4 · XRP ETFs — Approved but Small
- US spot XRP ETFs have been approved and are trading
- ETFs hold approximately 1.5-1.7% of XRP's supply
- For comparison: Bitcoin ETFs hold ~6.35% of BTC supply
- ETF demand was the only demand source that grew while XRP price fell — institutional buying continued through the downturn
- For XRP to reach higher valuations, ETF ownership would need to grow toward 4-5% of supply (24/7 Wall St analysis)
5 · Real Use Cases — What XRP Actually Does
Three live functions (24/7 Wall St, Sep 2026):
1. Cross-currency payment settlement (live since 2012)
XRP moves value between currencies without correspondent banks. Transactions settle in seconds for fractions of a cent. This is XRP's oldest and most established use case — 14 years of operation. RLUSD now runs on similar infrastructure, giving the payments business a regulated currency option.
2. Collateral at prime brokers (live, institutional)
XRP can be posted as collateral for trading positions at Ripple Prime. This is real institutional capital flowing through the system — not speculative, but functional demand.
3. AI agent payments via Stripe (beta, emerging)
The most interesting new development: Stripe and Tempo co-authored a standard for Machine Payments Protocol — using XRP for streaming micropayments between AI software agents. XRP's native Payment Channels enable streaming micropayments in a single settlement transaction, a capability RLUSD cannot yet match. This is still in beta with zero live commercial volume, but the concept — AI agents paying each other in XRP — is a genuine novel use case that no other cryptocurrency is specifically positioned for.
6 · Ripple's Business Expansion
- Hidden Road acquisition ($1.25B, May 2025): Ripple bought a prime broker to build institutional infrastructure. One year on, it's being integrated into Ripple's institutional offering.
- Circle Arc / SBI dual-rail: Ripple's partnership with SBI Holdings in Japan continues to build cross-border payment rails in Asia.
- Institutional lending (proposed): Clearpool and Cicada Partners proposing an institutional lending system on XRPL using RLUSD for working-capital loans. Depends on XLS-65 and XLS-66 amendments (pending validator approval). Would increase ledger activity but RLUSD — not XRP — would be the lending asset.
- XRPL stablecoin supply: Total stablecoin supply on XRP Ledger jumped 14.6% to $1.33B (Oct 2026), moving XRPL closer to Plasma and Avalanche in DeFiLlama rankings.
7 · Price Projections to 2030
Based on 24/7 Wall St analysis (Sep 2026), Standard Chartered, and historical pattern analysis. Not investment advice — these are scenario models, not predictions.
| Target | Market Cap Required | Gain from Current | What It Requires | Probability Assessment |
| $5 | ~$314B | +257% | Another crypto bull cycle + ETF ownership growing to 4-5% of supply + demand absorbing monthly escrow releases. XRP needs to reclaim its 2025 high of $3.66 first. | Plausible in a bull cycle — XRP has rallied ~1,000% after each of three prior 60%+ drawdowns. This is the fourth such episode. |
| $10 | ~$627B | +609% | Everything for $5 PLUS evidence that XRP itself is gaining demand from XRPL activity (lending, stablecoin transfers, payments). ETF buying alone isn't enough. | Requires real utility growth — not just speculation. The institutional lending system and RLUSD-driven activity would need to materialise. |
| $28 | ~$1.76 trillion | +1,885% | XRP would need to surpass Bitcoin's current $1.55T market cap. Standard Chartered's target. Requires massive institutional adoption + ETF demand + financial infrastructure integration + crypto market expansion. | Extreme — only Ripple's CTO publicly endorses this. No analyst outside Ripple agrees. Would require XRP to become one of the two largest crypto assets. |
The historical pattern that matters
XRP has experienced three prior drawdowns exceeding 60%, and rallied approximately 1,000% following each one. The current pullback from $2.88 to $0.99 (and recovery to $1.41) is the fourth such episode. If the pattern holds, a return to the $3.66-3.84 area (previous all-time high) is the first milestone — and from there, $5 is a 37% additional gain. However: each cycle has different liquidity, regulation, and market structure. The sample size is too small to call it a reliable pattern.
The key levels to watch
| Level | Price | What it means |
| Floor support | $0.99 | 2026 low — if this breaks, much lower |
| 200DMA support | $1.28 | Medium-term trend line — must hold |
| 50DMA resistance | $1.43 | Short-term momentum — needs to break above |
| Next resistance | $1.70-1.80 | October 2026 analyst target (BeInCrypto) |
| Previous ATH | $3.66-3.84 | The line that must be crossed to confirm a new long-term high |
| Bull case 2030 | $5 | Plausible with ETF growth + bull cycle |
| Aggressive 2030 | $10 | Requires proven utility growth on XRPL |
| Extreme 2030 | $28 | Standard Chartered target — would surpass Bitcoin's market cap |
8 · The Bear Case — Risks to the Thesis
Honest risks your friend should know:
- YTD -51%: XRP is in a bear trend for 2026 despite the SEC resolution. The legal clarity didn't automatically produce a sustained rally.
- RLUSD competes with XRP: Ripple's own stablecoin may cannibalise XRP's use case for payments. If institutions use RLUSD instead of XRP for settlement, XRP's demand case weakens.
- RLUSD prefers Ethereum: More RLUSD circulates on Ethereum than on XRPL. The market isn't choosing Ripple's own chain for Ripple's own product.
- Escrow supply overhang: Ripple can release up to 1 billion XRP per month from escrow. Much returns to escrow, but the supply pressure is permanent.
- CLARITY Act failed: Full statutory regulatory clarity is still missing. SEC/CFTC classification helps but doesn't provide complete legal certainty.
- $28 target is extreme: Would require XRP to be worth more than Bitcoin. Only Ripple's own CTO endorses this. Standard Chartered's target is an outlier.
- AI agent payments are beta: Zero live commercial volume. The Stripe Machine Payments Protocol is promising but unproven.
- Crypto-wide risk: If the 2030 macro thesis (debt wall, CBDC rollout, financial crisis) plays out, all risk assets including crypto could face a systemic sell-off before any recovery.
9 · The Bull Case — What Could Drive XRP Higher
- SEC resolution unlocked institutional access: Banks, funds, and advisors that couldn't touch XRP during litigation can now buy. ETF inflows are early evidence.
- RLUSD growth = XRPL activity growth: As RLUSD reaches $5B, $10B+, the XRP Ledger becomes a more active chain, driving demand for XRP as the native fee/liquidity asset.
- AI agent micropayments: If Stripe's Machine Payments Protocol scales, XRP has a genuinely unique use case — machines paying machines in sub-cent streaming transactions. Total addressable market: potentially billions of AI agents.
- Historical 1,000% recovery pattern: Three times before, XRP has rallied 10× from deep drawdowns. The current setup is similar (deep drawdown, regulatory clarity, new infrastructure).
- Ripple's institutional build-out: Hidden Road acquisition, Ripple Prime, SBI partnership, Circle Arc — real institutional infrastructure, not just a token.
- Cross-border payments: 14 years of operation. SWIFT replacement narrative may be aspirational, but Ripple has more real bank partnerships than any other crypto.
10 · Summary Verdict
The balanced view: XRP at $1.41 is a "show me" asset. The SEC overhang is gone (bullish), institutional infrastructure is being built (bullish), and the historical recovery pattern is encouraging. But the -51% YTD performance, RLUSD's preference for Ethereum, and the unproven AI agent use case mean XRP needs to prove its utility drives token demand — not just Ripple company revenue. The $5 target by 2030 is plausible in a bull cycle; $10 requires real XRPL utility growth; $28 is an outlier that would require a fundamental reshaping of the crypto hierarchy. The first test is reclaiming $3.66-3.84 (the previous high). Until that happens, XRP remains in a lower-highs pattern.
